Kathmandu; Ryan Energy Pvt. Ltd. (Ryan) is set to establish battery-swapping substations for two- and three-wheeler electric vehicles (EVs) in Nepal. The company introduced this innovative concept to the media through a special event held in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

During the event, the company's Managing Director (MD), Deepak Rauniar, announced that in the initial phase, 100 battery stations for three-wheelers and 30 for two-wheelers will be established across the country. "At these stations, vehicle owners can swap their depleted batteries for fully charged ones, similar to the process of exchanging gas cylinders," he explained. "This service eliminates the need for EV owners to wait for battery charging and removes the burden of battery ownership, although a nominal fee will be applicable."

This initiative will help ensure uninterrupted operation of EVs, enabling round-the-clock commercial use and reducing the upfront cost of purchasing EVs. The company also plans to expand these battery substations nationwide in the future.

Founded in December 2020 (Poush 2077 BS) by leading investors in Nepal’s renewable energy (RE) sector, Ryan aims to integrate assembly plants for two, three-, and four-wheeler EVs with advanced battery-swapping technology and operational systems, contributing to a sustainable future in Nepal’s transportation sector.

According to MD Rauniar, the company obtained its license from the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Tourism, and Ministry of Forests on December 20, 2021 (Poush 5, 2078 BS) and is engaged in various business areas, including the design and assembly of EVs, integration and distribution of RE systems, rural and urban electrification, solar irrigation, and power backup system installations.

The company also has plans to expand this project beyond Nepal, targeting Bangladesh and other international markets. To implement this project, 70 percent of the funding will come from bank loans, while 30 percent will be financed by promoters. A portion of the promoter’s investment will be made available to the general public through an Initial Public Offering (IPO).

Similarly, the company has announced plans to issue IPO to the public in the fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83 BS). To facilitate this process, Ryan has signed an agreement with Global IME Capital Ltd. for institutional advisory and IPO issuance services. The agreement was signed on Wednesday by Ryan's MD, Rauniar, and Global IME Capital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mandip Luitel.

During the event, Luitel emphasized the need to shift Nepal’s focus from electricity generation and transmission infrastructure to increasing electricity consumption. He stated that Ryan’s project is a timely and strategic initiative for Nepal, contributing to the growth of sustainable transportation while supporting national carbon emission reduction targets. He also assured that Global IME will provide necessary advisory and IPO issuance support for the project within a year.
