Kathmandu. Lalupate Hydropower Company Pvt. Ltd., which is constructing the 83.25 MW Dana Khola Hydropower Project in Manang district, has awarded the contract for the design, manufacture, supply, and installation of electro-mechanical (EM) equipment to Flovel India Pvt. Ltd.
For this purpose, on Thursday (13 November), Lalupate’s Executive Chairman Mohan Kumar Dangi and Flovel India’s Managing Director Gautam Kar signed the agreement. On the occasion, Dangi expressed confidence that Flovel would demonstrate its quality and professional work in Nepal’s growing hydropower development sector.
“Flovel has been working in Nepal for decades, and it has now entered this high-head project as well,” he said. “Its historical achievements and Nepal’s expanding hydropower sector represent a major opportunity for the company.”
Dangi said that, like in the past, the company is expected to complete its responsibilities within the stipulated time on this project as well. He highlighted several key reasons for Flovel’s selection for the Dana Khola project. These include the competitive price and acceptable technical proposal it submitted, its five-decade-long historical background, about 40% in-house manufacturing, high transparency within its family-run business, strong regulation, and long-term vision.

During the program, Flovel India’s Managing Director Kar said that the company would leave no stone unturned to carry out the assigned work with professional integrity while preserving the goodwill it has earned in Nepal over many years. “We have already worked on hydropower projects totaling more than 5,000 MW across the world — this is our historic legacy,” he said. “To maintain this reputation and to be part of Nepal’s vast hydropower potential, the company has always prioritized quality work and professionalism.”
Similarly, at the event, Independent Power Producers’ Association Nepal (IPPAN) President Ganesh Karki said that Flovel is not new to Nepal, and expressed confidence that the company would perform its responsibilities in the Dana Khola project with the same dedication as before.

Likewise, Flovel’s Nepal Representative Ranjil Basnet said that the company has been establishing itself as a leading player in Nepal’s energy sector. “Some believe that privately developed projects last only 30–35 years, but this is a misconception,” he said. “Even if private developers construct them, such projects ultimately belong to the nation, and there should be no compromise on quality. Flovel has always been conscious about maintaining quality.”
He added that as the Nepal representative, he has been carefully monitoring this aspect.
For the electro-mechanical works, an invitation for proposals was issued on 8 October 2024, and 10 international companies submitted expressions of interest. Among them, WKV Germany, Andritz Hydro India, Flovel India, Voith India, Troyer Italy, and Global Austria were shortlisted as “pre-qualified.”
Technical and financial proposals were requested from these six companies on 11 March 2025. After evaluating all technical and financial proposals received, Flovel scored the highest and was awarded the contract, according to the promoter company.
As per the agreement, in this 1,011-meter head project, Flovel will perform the complete scope of work, including design, manufacturing, supply, transport, insurance, erection, testing, and commissioning of electro-mechanical equipment.
The original installed capacity of the Dana Khola — 49.95 MW — has been uprated to 83.25 MW. The project is expected to generate 302.27 GWh (302.27 million units) of electricity annually.
