Kathmandu: Indian government has targeted to increase production capacity of its renewable energy to 2,000 GW by 2047 in an attempt to transition the country to the status of a developed nation through realizing this energy goal.

According to an Indian media, the country has already crossed 300 GW of non-fossil capacity in September this year and is actively chasing the target of 500 GW by 2030 as the Union government is now aggressively plotting its next growth phase. The fast growing South Asian country has a target of 900 GW in 2036.

Speaking at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 in New Delhi on Tuesday, Jeevan Kumar Jethani, a high ranking official at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, India, informed about the government's ambitious post-2030 roadmap.

As informed in the program, the India has already solarised 6.5 million households as the government has put forth the target of reaching out the facility to 10 million households by March 2027.
