Kathmandu: A two-day workshop on "Evolving Landscapes of Electricity Market and Regulation in Nepal" has concluded. The workshop was jointly organized by Mrigasheera Consulting and Training Services and the Rastriya Prasaran Grid Company Limited (RPGCL).

The workshop was held on Friday and Saturday (June 26 and 27) with the objective of enhancing learning and expanding knowledge on electricity markets and regulation among professionals associated with the energy sector.

More than 25 engineers, bankers, and chartered accountants from banks and financial institutions, hydropower projects, consulting firms, and other related sectors participated in the program.

The training program saw participation from employees of various institutions, including the Sanima Hydro Group, RPGCL, Nepal Infrastructure Bank, Kabeli Group, SBI Bank, and others.

The workshop featured training sessions by former Chairperson of the Electricity Regulatory Commission, Dr. Ram Prasad Dhital; former Deputy Executive Directors of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Sher Singh Bhat and Prabal Adhikari; Director of the NEA Load Dispatch Center, Chandan Kumar Ghosh; Chief Executive Officer of RPGCL, Sagar Shrestha; and Saroj Koirala, Founder and Chief Executive of Mrigashira Consulting.

The speakers delivered presentations on various dimensions of electricity markets and regulation.

Speaking at the program, Koirala stated that although the electricity sector holds immense potential, the time has come to work strategically to translate that potential into tangible results. "Capacity building of human resources is one of the most important components of that strategy," he said. "Our objective is to contribute to the proper development of the sector by distinguishing myths from realities regarding the prospects of the electricity sector and by ensuring that professionals are well informed."

As guests at the event, former secretaries Anup Kumar Upadhyay and Dinesh Kumar Ghimire expressed the view that such programs play a significant role in producing the skilled human resources that are increasingly lacking in the energy sector. They emphasized that the initiatives undertaken in the past at the policy-making level now need to be further institutionalized and effectively implemented, adding that the young generation is capable of taking this responsibility forward.

Similarly, Associate Professor Dr. Basanta Kumar Gautam of Pulchowk Engineering Campus noted that such programs add a new dimension to engineering education and learning.
