Kathmandu; Kathmandu University (KU) has collaborated with the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras (IITM) for a Jointly Awarded International Masters Program in Energy Systems.

The application call for the first batch of student enrollment is announced recently. This program is based on the MOU signed between KU and IITM during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Nepal.

On 16 May 2022, the School of Engineering, Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel, Nepal, and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Madras, India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as the renewal of the previous MOU signed on 20.07.1998.

The signing ceremony was held in Lumbini, Nepal in presence of PM Narendra Modi and PM Sher B. Deuba. Associate professor of KU, Dr.Biraj Thapa said, the 2 years program, in m-tech in energy systems aims to provide students with the basic skill sets that spread across the multiple domains of energy, as its core content. He added, “The transcript will have logos and a seal from both intuitions. This is happening for the first time at KU. We are pretty excited to see how it goes ahead.”

The program will integrate expertise from both institutions in the Departments of Aeronautical, Applied Mechanics, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Environmental, Metallurgical, and Materials Engineering, and Ocean Engineering, along with the Departments of Chemistry, Physics, Humanities, and Social Sciences, to enable a grasp of the multidimensional aspect of energy, technology, and society.

The session is set to start on 25 th July 2022, where the 1 st and 2 nd semester is to be held on KU with joint teaching by IITM based on hybrid mode followed by course and laboratory works in IITM on the further semester.
