Kathmandu: Import of electric stoves is on rise with the government facilitating the use of the electricity for the household purpose.

The records with the Department of Customs (DoC) show that Nepal imported 204,393 units of electric stoves in the fiscal year 2022/23. For this purpose, the country spent Rs 425.47 million.

The number of electric purchases was 30 percent more than the imported quantity in the previous fiscal year. Of the total number, 130,745 units were the induction stove, while 73,648 were the infrared stoves.

In 2021/22, the country spent Rs 322.84 million to import 158,264 units of electric stoves, which included 116,810 units of induction stoves and 41,454 units of infrared stoves. Likewise, a total of Rs 248.20 million was spent in the fiscal year 2020/21 to purchase 154,000 units of electric stoves from abroad. This included 2,400 infrared stoves and rest were induction stoves.
