Bali (Indonesia); In a significant achievement, Sushil Pokharel, the Founder of Bizbell, has been elected as the Vice-Chair of the International Hydropower Association (IHA) for the 2023-25 term. This historic milestone signifies the first instance of a Nepali national ascending to a prominent position at the global hydropower body.
The announcement was made during the 2023 World Hydropower Congress held in Bali, Indonesia. Sushil Pokharel, renowned for his visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to clean energy, will represent 28 countries in South and Central Asia. His appointment to the IHA Board underscores his commitment to advancing sustainable hydropower on a global scale.
The 2023 World Hydropower Congress, attended by 900 influential decision-makers, innovators, and experts from diverse sectors representing 40 different countries, concluded after a four-day in Bali. The Bali Statement, issued on the event's final day, advocates for the integration of hydropower to foster thriving, low-carbon economies driven by clean, renewable energy sources.
Sushil Pokharel said, "With this new position, my dedication to developing Nepal as a prime destination for hydropower investment has grown stronger. Nepal has hydropower projects certified by Hydropower Sustainability Standard, providing us with ample opportunities to attract green finance and pave the way for a sustainable future."
As the Founder of Bizbell, Sushil has been at the forefront of pioneering sustainable hydropower development, aiming to build a significant 1000 MW renewable energy portfolio by 2035.
