Kathmandu; Sanima Group has marked a significant achievement in Nepal's hydropower sector with the successful initiation of electricity production from the 73 MW Middle-Tamor Hydropower Project. This milestone was celebrated as electricity from the project began flowing through the 220 kV Koshi Corridor transmission line.

Last Friday, Kulman Ghising, the Managing Director (MD) of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), visited the project site to witness the commencement of electricity production at Sanima Middle-Tamor Hydropower Limited. During this period, notable Nepali comedians Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya, known as 'Maha Jodi', were also actively engaged in the program.

As per Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) the promoter must be provide free electricity to NEA for 15 days before obtaining permission to start commercial production. MD Ghising also shared that one of the turbines has been connected to the Kosī Corridor in Tehrathum, further integrating the project into Nepal's power transmission network. The total installed capacity of Nepal's electricity has now reached 3,300 MW with the addition of Middle-Tamor.

During dry seasons, power production will be maintained between 25 to 30 MW. The project includes a 50-meter-long and 11-meter-high dam near Mitlung in Furumbu of Fungling municipality, with power generated by channeling water through a 3,400-meter-long tunnel to the powerhouse in Thumbabensi of Khokling.

Sanima Group has been actively engaged in developing and operating multiple hydropower projects across Nepal. These include the Sun Koshi Small Hydropower plant (2.6 MW) in Sindhupalchowk district, Sanima Mai Hydropower (22 MW) in Ilam district, and Sanima Mai Cascade (7 MW) also in Ilam. In addition, the Middle Mailung Hydropower (14.3 MW) in Rasuwa district and Lower Likhu Hydropower (28.1 MW) in Ramechhap district contribute significantly to the country's energy generation.

Furthermore, construction is underway for the Jum Kholaa Hydropower project (56 MW) in Dolakha district, representing another ambitious effort by Sanima Group to bolster Nepal's hydropower capacity. These initiatives underscore Sanima Group's commitment to enhancing Nepal's energy security and promoting sustainable development through renewable energy sources.
