Kathmandu; The Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC) has able to installed 449,000 biogas plants to the marginalized and rural community through the support of Government of Nepal and different development partners.

According to the AEPC 449,338 biogas plants has installed by collaborating with various organizations or local authorities, and it has prepared 357 institutional and commercial plants. Biogas, popular for cooking in rural areas, has proven to be an excellent method for cooking as it reduces environmental pollution by using gas emitted from cow dung, thereby improving the health of rural women.

In recent times, most of the local authorities have been attracted to producing such type of gas from waste to expand its popularity. The popularity is increasing as it is not only used for gas but also for producing electricity from waste.

1,423,000 improved cook-stoves

The center has installed 1,423,242 improved cook-stoves. These stoves have been installed in remote and rural areas with the aim of improving forest and environmental conservation and human health.

During its 27 years of operation, the AEPC has installed improved stoves in 1,423,242 households. During this period, 109,635 'portable metallic stoves' have been installed. Moreover, due to the increased usage of LPG gas for cooking, there is a rise in safety risks along with economic losses, which has prompted the distribution of electric stoves. The center has distributed 33,129 electric stoves so far.

Reached 85 MW Installed Capacity

The AEPC has contributed approximately 85 MW of renewable energy to the country's energy production. It has provided electricity services through solar, wind, and micro-hydroelectric power in remote areas where the national grid has not reached.

Electricity production includes 38.842 MW from micro-hydro, 10.08 MW from rooftop solar, and 2.707 MW from hybrid (mini-grid solar and wind). Additionally, 988,341 solar home systems have been installed as well. Furthermore, 4,511 religious sites have solar installations, while 3,309 streetlights are solar-powered.

Expansion the Service 3.6 Million Households

AEPC in its 27 years of establishment, has extended service to 3.6 million more households through alternative energy. Information provided by the center includes services through solar, wind, micro-hydro, improved stoves, and bioenergy. The center has provided services through alternative energy in remote, underserved, and marginalized households.
