Kathmandu; Millennium Challenge Account Nepal (MCA-N), the Nepal-based agency of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), has called for a global tender to construct 315 km-long transmission lines.

Issuing a public notice on Monday, the agency of the US Government’s MCC called for bidding to build the infrastructure. The MCA-N has divided the total construction into three sections for this purpose.

According to the MCA-N, a 400 kV 117 km stretch of transmission line will be constructed along Lapsi Phedi-Ratamate-New Hetauda. Similarly, 90 km long 400 kV transmission line in Ratamate-Damauli and New Damauli-New Butwal segments will be expedited. The MCA-N has set deadline of March 27, 2023 to apply for the contract.

The MCC Compact, which courted huge controversy from people from different walks of life, has provided Nepal with a grant amounting to US $500 million to construct high powered transmission lines and to upgrade selected highways. The government will be investing $130 million in the five year-long projects to be funded under the compact.
