Kathmandu: The government has started preliminary work to construct 61.02 MW Humla-Karnali Hydropower Project.
The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoWRI) has proposed to construct the hydropower project in Humla-Karnali River of Namkha Rural Municipality in Humla district of Karnali Province. The ministry in this regard organized public hearings at the local level to conduct Environmental Impact Assessment on Tuesday.
The MoEWRI has planned to erect a 10 meter tall dam along Humla-Karnali River to construct the hydropower project. A 6,941.65 meter long tunnel and 491.36 meter long penstock pipe will be used to send water from the river to the power house to be constructed in Namkha Rural Municipality-4.
After production of electricity, water is then released again in Humla-Karnali River by using a 24.84 meter long tailrace. The MoEWRI has appointed Hydro Consult Engineering Limited, Cement Consultant Pvt Ltd and Professional Network as consultants for the project construction.
