Kathmandu: The Damauli-Bharatpur 220 kV transmission line under the 140 MW Tanahun Hydropower Project has witnessed 78 percent work progress as the project is expected to expedite the construction with recently received approval for cutting trees from 17 community forests.
According to Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari, the Division Forest Office granted permission to cut trees in 12 additional community forests after the marking and stamping of trees located within the way of transmission line in Tanahun were completed. With this, the necessary approvals for tree felling have been secured for all 17 community forests in the district that fall within the transmission line corridor.
The transmission line route covers five community forests in Devghat Rural Municipality, and six each in Bandipur Rural Municipality and Vyas Municipality. Bhandari said the site clearance process on Chitwan side is underway.
The construction of the Tanahu Hydropower Project is being carried out in three packages. Songda-Kalika JV has been awarded the contract for the construction of the dam and related structures under Package 1. The construction progress for this package has reached 63 percent.
Similarly, Sinohydro Corporation of China is undertaking the construction of the powerhouse and related equipment under Package 2. The project has reported that construction progress for this package has reached 79 percent.
Under 'Package 3' of the Damauli-Bharatpur 220 kV transmission line project, 94 towers are to be constructed along a stretch of approximately 35 kilometers. The contractor, KEC International Limited (India), has so far completed the foundation work for 83 towers and the erection of 78 towers.
