KATHMANDU; The Department of Electricity Development (DoED) has honored the promoter companies of 22 power projects—including 20 hydropower and two solar projects—that commenced commercial electricity generation during the fiscal year 2025/26.
The recognition was presented during a special ceremony marking the 33rd anniversary of DoED at its headquarters in Sano Gaucharan, Kathmandu, on Friday.
According to the DoED, the honored projects collectively added 510.6 MW of installed capacity to Nepal's national grid system last FY. Hydropower projects account for 497.6 MW, while 13 MW has been contributed by two grid-connected solar power plants.
Among the electricity projects that received admirations, 102 MW Madhya Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project is the largest in power generation capacity. It is followed by 82 MW Lower Solu Hydropower Project, 50 MW Mewa Khola Hydropower Project, 48.55 MW Upper Piluwa-3 Hydropower Project, and 48.5 MW Upper Rahughat Hydropower Project.
Other projects include Rahughat Mangale (37 MW), Kabeli-3 (23.13 MW), Upper Tule Khola A (22.5 MW), Thulo Khola (21.3 MW), Sangu Khola (20 MW), Lower Irkhuwa Khola (14.15 MW), Siddha Khola (10 MW), Dasam Khola (9.6 MW), Upper Gadigad (9.55 MW), Hidi Khola (6.82 MW), Buk Khola (6 MW), Sangu Khola-1 (5.5 MW), Buku-Kapati (5 MW), Khorunga Khola (4.8 MW), and Mandu Khola (4 MW).
The majority of the honored hydropower projects are from Myagdi district. Four projects—Rahughat Mangale, Thulo Khola, Upper Rahughat, and Upper Tule Khola A— were the newly commissioned hydropower projects in the district last FY. Multiple projects also began generation in Dolakha, Taplejung, and Solukhumbu districts.
The DoED also awarded recognition to two grid-connected solar projects- 8 MW Morang Solar Power Project and 5 MW Dhalkebar Solar PV Project in Dhanusha, together contributing 13 MW of the renewable energy.
Promoter companies receiving the award include Him Parbat Hydropower Ltd., Tundi Power Company Ltd., Solu Hydropower Ltd., Kabeli Hydropower Company Ltd., Samyukta Urja Ltd., Him Star Urja Company Ltd., Mavilung Energy Ltd., Madhya Bhotekoshi Hydropower Company Ltd., Shailshree Power Nepal Ltd., Daram Khola Hydro Energy Ltd., Reliable Hydropower Company Pvt. Ltd., Mandu Khola Hydropower Ltd., Apollo Hydropower Ltd., Lower Irkhuwa Hydropower Company Ltd., Siddha Khola Hydropower Company Ltd., United Mewa Khola Hydropower Ltd., and Bright Lotus Power Ltd.
Speaking at the anniversary event were Sarita Dawadi, joint-secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation; Suraj Kumar Baidya, secretary of the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat; Mandevi Shrestha, director general of the DoED; Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, acting executive director of the Nepal Electricity Authority and Mohan Kumar Dangi, president of the Independent Power Producers' Association Nepal, along with representatives from government agencies and the energy sector.
The DoED stated that it has continued the tradition of honoring projects that successfully enter commercial operation and contribute to Nepal's electricity supply, expressing confidence that the recognition will further encourage investment from both the private and public sectors in the country's energy infrastructure.
