EU Allocates €2m for Bhotekoshi-Trishuli Flood Relief

Kathmandu: The European Union (EU) has allocated €2 million in humanitarian aid to support communities devastated by flash floods in Nepal’s Bhotekoshi-Trishuli region.

The assistance will focus on urgent needs, including food, healthcare, clean water, sanitation and shelter, according to the European Commission. EU-funded partners have already begun delivering relief supplies and other assistance in affected areas, reads a EU released press statement on Friday.  

The latest funding comes on top of nearly €3 million earmarked earlier this year for disaster preparedness and humanitarian support in Nepal.

The EU is also deploying its Rapid Response Coordinator for Asia to help coordinate the bloc’s response to the disaster.

To strengthen relief and rescue efforts, the EU has activated its Copernicus satellite service, which will provide rapid mapping of flood-affected areas to help local responders assess damage and plan operations.

EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib said the bloc stands with communities affected by the devastating floods and will provide urgent support for healthcare, food, water and shelter.
