Kathmandu: Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has expressed special thanks to the Government of India (GoI) and Nepal's Foreign Minister, Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, for obtaining approval to export an additional 251 MW of electricity to India. Minister Khadka conveyed his gratitude through social media (Facebook) on Wednesday.

He stated that under his leadership, the ministry has been working towards the goal of generating 28,500 MW of electricity within the next 10 years, with plans to sell 10,000 MW exclusively to India and 5,000 MW to Bangladesh. He appreciated the efforts made by Foreign Minister Deuba in facilitating this progress.

"I extend my heartfelt thanks for granting approval to export an additional 251 MW of electricity from 12 different hydropower projects in Nepal (125 MW to Bihar through PTC India Limited and 126 MW to Haryana through NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam – NVVN)," Khadka wrote, "Special thanks to Honorable Foreign Minister as well, whose initiatives have significantly advanced electricity trade between the two countries. Her visit to India has resulted in bilateral approval for the export of this quantum of electricity, which is indeed a positive step for our energy development."

He emphasized that due to the sustainable vision and goals of the Foreign Minister, the trade partnership between the two countries has progressed, bringing Nepal closer to economic prosperity.

"India has granted approval for the export of a total of 941.44 MW of electricity from 28 hydropower projects in Nepal," Khadka further mentioned, "I am optimistic that cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries will continue to grow in the coming days."

During Foreign Minister Deuba's visit to India, additional approval was granted on Monday for the export of more electricity.
