Kathmandu; A group of Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) is organizing ‘Green Hydrogen Summit’ in Kathmandu on October 10.

The two-day summit is targeted to assist the government in its initiatives to minimize the impact of climate change and develop green energy. The conference, which will observe the active participation of the government and Nepal Electricity Authority, has also aimed to attract more investment in climate-friendly infrastructure.

The summit to be organized by Shesh Ghale, former president of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and chairman of Melbourne Institute of Technology (MIT) Group of Foundation, and a group of NRN, will also pressurize the government to devise effective policy in the segment. Ghale said Nepal also needs to adopt a related policy as early as possible at a time when the world has moved forward to displace the use of dirty energy.

The summit, being organized under the slogan ‘Antidote for Melting Himalayas’, is also expected to help increase electricity consumption inside the country through favorable policy guidelines. It has also aimed for supporting studies related to the production, storage and distribution capacities of green hydrogen.

The mega event aims to ensure energy and food security through the promotion of a sustainable and green hydrogen economy. It has kept in its center exploring the possible uses of green hydrogen produced via hydroelectricity in the manufacturing of ammonia gas, among others. It is expected to play a key role in building a strong foundation of innovative financial modality, foreign direct investment, increased participation of the private sector and use of technology for the related policy reform measures.

The summit is sought relevant at a time when there is a global discussion started over the need for investing in the infrastructure related to clean energy and sustainable climate, which will contribute to minimizing the impacts of climate change and economic growth. The mega event is expected to aid in identifying innovative ideas for sustainable solutions to climate-related problems that Nepal is facing.

Main objectives of Green Hydrogen Summit:

1. To carry out a study of the potential of production, storage and distribution of green hydrogen in Nepal.

2. To analyze the prospects of manufacturing chemical fertilizers by the use of green ammonia in the country.

3. To receive information regarding the cost of production, technology to be used and the global trend of producing green hydrogen, to be shared by the foreign participants.

4. To attract a notable size of private investment in the production of green hydrogen and urea.

5. To keep in priority the plan to achieve the targets maintained by the Sustainable Development Goals, green energy and climate-friendly green hydrogen.
