Kathmandu: India-based transformer manufacturer Kiran Power Rectification Services (KPRS) is significantly strengthening its footprint in the Himalayan power sector in Nepal. By expanding its manufacturing capabilities, leveraging in-house engineering excellence, and diversifying its product portfolio, KPRS is positioning itself as a vital partner in Nepal’s rapidly evolving energy infrastructure.

A BIS-licensed and ISO-certified company, KPRS has built a sterling reputation for manufacturing high-quality power and distribution transformers. As part of its strategic growth, the company is scaling its operations and service delivery in Nepal to meet the surging demand for reliable grid components, specifically catering to the rigorous specifications of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), private utilities, and international energy efficiency standards.

The company operates from a state-of-the-art 40,000-square-foot facility in Bangalore and is currently augmenting its production capacity to manufacture power transformers up to the 220 kV class. While its existing infrastructure already allows the company to design, manufacture, and test units up to 50 MVA, this expansion is timed perfectly with Nepal’s shift toward grid modernization and the urgent need for high-capacity transmission infrastructure to link new hydropower generation sources to the national grid.

The backbone of this expansion is a specialized engineering team with deep expertise in Extra High Voltage (EHV) design. By utilizing advanced in-house software and customized resource planning tools, KPRS provides precise customization and streamlined project management -- from initial inquiry and production planning to inventory management and after-sales support.

The expansion of KPRS into the Nepal market comes at a critical juncture as the nation transitions from a power-deficient state to a regional energy exporter. High-capacity 220 kV transformers are now essential for evacuating power from remote, high-altitude hydropower sites to central urban hubs.

Furthermore, by establishing a dedicated business entity and localized service presence in Nepal, KPRS aims to reduce lead times for critical infrastructure maintenance, ensuring that the government’s "Energy Roadmap" goals remain on track. Beyond the national grid, the company’s diversified portfolio -- which includes distribution transformers up to 2500 kVA and specialized dry-type or furnace units -- provides essential support to Nepal’s burgeoning industrial sectors, such as cement and steel manufacturing.

The company reports a steady annual growth rate of 20 percent and remains committed to skill development and collaborative vendor engagement. As grid upgrades accelerate across South Asia, KPRS is aligning its technical prowess to ensure that the "critical link" of transmission remains strong and efficient, ready to meet the evolving demands of Nepal’s energy future.
