KATHMANDU; Nepal imported petroleum products worth Rs 296.44 billion, which makes 15.65 percent of the total imported amount of Rs 1.894 trillion in 11 months of the current Fiscal Year (FY).
The records with the Department of Customs (DoC) show that the country spent over Rs 296 billion in import of diesel, petrol, cooking gas and aviation fuel. Out of them, diesel, petrol and cooking gas, which were in top five imports, made up Rs 272.38 billion.
The diesel import accounted for Rs 152 billion, the largest of all. In the review period, a total of 1.264 million kiloliters of diesel was imported.
Petrol stood at the third position in terms of the import expenses. Nepal spent a total of Rs 68.17 billion to import 685,000 kl of petrol. Similarly, 475.9 million kg of cooking gas worth Rs 52.21 billion was imported in the review period.
In the 11 months of the last FY, diesel worth Rs 115 billion, petrol worth Rs 58.58 billion and cooking gas worth Rs 57.36 billion were imported.
Overall, Nepal’s trade deficit surged 15 percent to Rs 1.616 trillion in the review period. As total imports increased by 15.16 percent to Rs 1.894 trillion, the export inclined 12.28 percent to Rs 277.96 billion.
