Kathmandu: Hydropower group witnessed its market index plunged 233.16 points in the past one year.

According to the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse), the sub-index fell from 2,758.52 points to 2,525.36 points during mid-April 2022 and mid-April 2023. During the Nepali year, hydropower lost an average of 8.45 percent of its market value.

Api Power Company Limited, Ridi Power Company, Arun Kabeli Power Ltd, Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Ltd and Arun Valley Hydropower Development Co. Ltd stood among the top ten companies with the largest amount of their shares transactions. Api Power Company Limited hit the topmost position also in the list of the highest volume of stocks trading.  

Overall, the Nepse index went down 451.18 points in the review period. Likewise, investors lost Rs 613 billion last year due to a heavy fall in the prices of shares of listed companies.

Last year, the share market was largely affected by the dwindling macroeconomic indicators, crunch in loanable funds with banks, high interest rates and political situation, said stockbrokers.
