KATHMANDU; The 99.8 MW Tamakoshi V Hydroelectric Project promoted has achieved 21.68 percent overall physical progress in the fiscal year 2025/26.
The construction work of the project promoted by Tamakoshi Hydropower Company Limited was completely halted for about eight months due to delays in the approval of forest area use and public land use. In its annual progress report unveiled by the company, it has mentioned that the work has accelerated immediately after receiving the approval.
According to the report, the construction work was resumed from second week of March after receiving go ahead from the Ministry of Forests and Environment. The physical progress, which was just about 19 percent when the work was stopped, has increased by 2.68 percent to 21.68 percent within four months of the resumption of work.
The construction work of the project has been divided into three main contract packages. Under the Lot-1 that includes civil and hydromechanical work, the excavation of tunnels and underground structures have been progressed rapidly.
Under Lot-2 that comprises electromechanical and transmission line, contract has been awarded and contractors have been mobilized accordingly. Similarly, Lot-3 of permanent camp facilities has seen progress on construction of structures with offices, residential buildings, walls and access roads has been completed.
In the major physical progress, the excavation of the headpond (11,960 cubic meters), spillway, main access tunnel, transformer cavern, and power house access tunnel has been completed. In addition, the excavation of 784 meters (9.67 percent of the total length) of the main tunnel has been completed, while 64.71 percent of the excavation work for the construction of the underground power house has been completed.
With an estimated construction cost of Rs 21.95 billion, a financial structure of 65 percent debt and 35 percent equity has been established for this project. Investment in the project is being made as per the tripartite agreement between the Nepal Electricity Authority, Tamakoshi Hydropower Company and the Employees Provident Fund.
The total financial progress of the project has reached 25.90 percent till by the end of the last fiscal year. Out of the total financial estimations, Rs 2.99 billion has been spent in the review year.
So far, the total expenditure of the project has reached Rs 5.69 billion. With the disbursement of Rs 1.20 billion loan by the Employees Provident Fund in the year under review, the total loan amount received from the fund has reached Rs 1.55 billion, which has created a smooth financial basis for the continuation of the construction work of the project, the company states.
