PTC India Limited has agreed to purchase electricity to be generated from two hydropower projects--750 MW West Seti and 450 MW Seti River-6.

NHPC Limited, in this regard, signed a power purchase agreement with PTC India on Tuesday. The Government of Nepal has recently awarded NHPC, an Indian company, with the contract for the feasibility study and construction of these two projects.

West Seti and Seti River-6 are the hydropower projects of strategic importance in Sudurpashchim Province. On June 14, the 52nd board meeting of the Investment Board Nepal, chaired by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba decided to award the contract for these projects to the Indian NHPC.

According to the contract agreement, NHPC will have to submit to the IBN a detailed study report on issues like economic, financial, technical, social and environmental, accessibility to the energy market and transmission lines, among others, of both the projects in the next two years.

A preliminary study has shown that West Seti Hydropower Project can produce 3.30 billion units of electricity, while Seti River-6 Hydropower Project can generate 1.40 billion units of electricity annually. Seti River-6 will be constructed 50 km down the river belt from the powerhouse of West Seti Hydropower Project. The electricity produced by these projects will be evacuated via substation in New Attariya.
