Kathmandu; A one-day regional hydropower development conference is going to be held in Kathmandu today (November 23rd) with the theme of 'Power of sustainable development through hydropower'. It is said that the conference will be focused on the role of sustainable hydropower for the low carbon economy and cross border electricity trade.
The conference focuses on the role of hydropower in industrial development, energy trade, low carbon economy, and reaching the goal of net zero carbon emission. Additionally, it is said that the conference will emphasize the work to be done for sustainable hydropower development, foreign direct investment (FDI) and sustainable cross border electricity trade in future. The conference has set off the agenda for discussing the necessity of water management and energy security in South Asian countries.
According to the organizer the Hydropower Sustainability (HS) Standard is the global sustainability benchmark for the hydropower sector. This regional conference will explore how Nepal, through the application of the HS Standard, can attract international investment and climate finance to build regional partnerships for sustainable cross border electricity trade.
With high level delegates, hydropower experts, promoters, investors, consultant, and stakeholders from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and other countries will participate in the conference
HS Alliance, International Hydropower Association (IHA), Bizbell, Nepal Hydropower Association (NHA), USAID and IPPAN have collectively organized the conference with the financial assistance of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and Urja Nepal under the USAID.
