KATHMANDU, GI Solar Company has started constructing a 6.8 MW solar power project in Hattimudha of Budhigandaki Rural Municipality, Morang,

Ganesh BahadurDhungana, executive director of the GI Solar Company, said they started construction work since the third week of June this year. According to him, they are working on the foundation work including installation of solar panels of the project.

Dhungana told UrjaKhabar that the work is being done at faster pace and they have targeted to start production by mid-November.
The project has earmarked investment of Rs 580 million for the installation of the solar project. Per MW cost stands at Rs 85 million. The produced electricity will be connected to the Duhabi based substation of Nepal Electricity Authority.

The private company itself will stretch the transmission line necessary to evacuate the produced electricity. According to the company, the total length of the transmission line will be 5 km and this work too will be completed by mid-November.

Of late, investors are increasing being attracted to install solar power plants. Compared to hydroelectric projects, solar power plants are easier and cheaper to install. In addition, the government has also giving priority to the supply of electricity produced from mixed sources.
