Kathmandu : A total of 42 hydropower companies generated revenue of Rs 10.766 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year.

According to financial statements made public by 68 hydropower companies listed in the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse), 42 are in profit, while 26 companies are in loss during mid-July 2022 and mid-April 2023. The profitable companies earned a net profit of Rs 3.32 billion during this period.

Of these, Chilime Jalvidyut Company Limited recorded the highest net profit of Rs 528.9 million. Similarly, Sanima Mai Hydropower Limited earned Rs 388.2 million and Butwal Power Company earned a net profit of Rs 268.1 million.

Likewise, 26 loss-making companies incurred a loss of Rs 3.405 billion in the review period. Of these, 21 companies are in operation while the remaining five companies are under construction. The 21 operating companies faced the loss of Rs 3.33 billion.

Seven listed hydropower companies have not published their financial statement. Eastern Hydropower Limited, Makar Jitumaya Suri Hydropower Limited, Mai Khola Hydropower Limited, Dolti Power Company Limited, Bhugol Energy Development Company Limited and Buddha Bhumi Nepal Hydropower Company Limited are yet to unveil their financial reports.
