Kathmandu: The 4 MW Upper Lohore Khola Hydropower Project, located in Dailekh district of Karnali Province, has been completed and is now operational. The project features electro-mechanical equipment supplied and installed by Geppert Hydro GmbH of Austria.
As a run-of-river system, the project harnesses the natural flow of the river to generate clean energy with minimal environmental impact. According to Geppert, the installed turbines, generators, electrical, and control systems have all been built in compliance with European standards.
Geppert Hydro considers this project a significant achievement in its operations in Nepal. The company has established offices in Austria, India, Nepal, Turkey, and Croatia as part of its global expansion. It claims that its advanced, eco-friendly, and high-efficiency equipment imported from Europe is gaining increasing popularity in Nepal’s hydropower sector.
Rajkishor Yadav, the Resident Director of Geppert Hydro in Nepal, described the Upper Lohore Khola as a technological milestone for the company in the country. “Its noiseless and environmentally friendly operation contributes positively to both the local community and the surrounding ecosystem,” he said. “The project is also expected to play a key role in rural infrastructure development and the promotion of green energy.”
Geppert Hydro boasts more than 125 years of experience in the hydropower sector. To date, it has successfully completed over 5,000 hydropower projects across more than 40 countries, providing comprehensive electro-mechanical solutions from design to operation.
In Nepal, Rajkishor Yadav oversees Geppert’s operations. Besides Upper Lohore Khola, the company is also involved in other major projects, including the 42.9 MW Super Dordi ‘B’ Hydropower Project.
