Kathmandu; The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) on Tuesday signed an agreement with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to install modern street lights on the main roads of Kathmandu.

The KMC–NEA deal is based on an earlier agreement reached among the KMC, the NEA and the Department of Roads. On Tuesday, the agreement was signed by Ram Bahadur Thapa, head of the Public Construction Department of KMC, and Balram Silwal, director of the NEA.

The installation cost of the modern lights has been estimated at Rs 119.97 million. Of the amount, the KMC is set to bear 60 percent, while the remaining 40 percent will be borne by the NEA.

As per the agreement, the KMC will install the street lamps on the main road stretches that connect Lainchaur-Maharajgunj, Maitighar Mandala-Bagbazaar, Bagbazaar-Shital Niwas, Sinamangal-Tribhuvan International Airport-Gaushala-Kamalpokhari and Chabahil-Jorpati.

Similarly, the structure to be built on investment of the NEA will include the road network connecting Tribhuvan International Airport, Tinkune, Baneshwor, Maitighar Mandala, Tripureshwor, Teku, Kalimati and Kalanki. Likewise, it will also involve the road segment along Tripureshwor-Lainchaur and the area around Tundikhel.

The two entities have also agreed to take full ownership and responsibility of the structure regarding the installation and maintenance on their respective sites.
