Kathmandu: Nepal imported 86,513 units of electric stoves in the first seven months of the current fiscal year.
According to the Department of Customs (DoC), the hydropower-rich country imported 84,512 units of induction stove and 2,001 units of infrared cookers during the period between mid-July and mid-February. Of the imported figure, a large number of electricity-based cookers (more than 68,000 units) was purchased mainly from China.
Similarly, Nepal imported more than 16,000 induction cookers from India. The United Arab Emirates was among the countries that supplied electric stoves to Nepal during the review period.
With the government promoting the domestic consumption of electricity, the use of electric cooking devices is on rise, shows the DoC records.
