Kathmandu: Upper Tamor 'A' Hydropower Project has finalized its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

According to Union Hydropower Limited, the developer of the Upper Tamor ‘A’, it has recently submitted its EIA report at the Department of Environment for final approval. The proposed project to be built in Tamor River located in Phattanglung Rural Municipality of Taplejung district will have an installed capacity of 60 MW.

The hydropower project is estimated to cost Rs 12.85 billion for its construction. Per megawatt cost of electricity produced by the project will be Rs 222.11 million.

The project has estimated its electricity production at 333.822 gigawatt hours annually on an average. The estimated period of the construction of Upper Tamor ‘A’ is three years from the date of construction starts.  

According to the EIA report, a total of 1,855 trees are needed to be cut for the project construction. The produced electricity will be supplied to Dhungesangu substation, which is situated 15 km from the proposed power house site, by using a 132 kV single circuit transmission line.
