Kathmandu: The Dana-Rahughat section of the 220-kV Kaligandaki Corridor transmission line in Myagdi has resumed operation after 21 days of disruption caused by a landslide and the flood of the Kaligandaki River.

As informed by the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the transmission line section has been brought into operation after thorough repairing. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) restored the section temporarily using an Emergency Restoration System (ERS) tower, charging one circuit of the transmission line from Saturday night.

The September 27 floods had damaged four transmission towers in Annapurna Rural Municipality of Myagdi district. Towers No. 21, 23 and 24 were destroyed, while Tower No. 22 sustained partial damage.

The disruption had disconnected around 170 MW of electricity generated by five private hydropower projects connected to the national grid through the Dana substation. With the transmission line back in operation, electricity generated by these projects has resumed flowing into the national grid.

The approximately 130-kilometre transmission line starts at the Dana substation in Annapurna Rural Municipality-3 and reaches the New Butwal substation in Sunwal Municipality-13 of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West), passing through Parbat, Baglung, Syangja, Palpa and Rupandehi districts.

The transmission line has a capacity to evacuate 1,200 MW of electricity produced by the power projects in the section.
