Kathmandu: The 28.304 MW Madhya Chameliya Hydropower Project has prepared the environment impact assessment  (EIA) report to construct the project.

Darchula Power Pvt Ltd is constructing the hydropower project in Marma Rural Municipality of Darchula district. The project has sought to install a dam in Lambagar of Chameliya River to produce electricity.

According to the EIA report, the project can produce 118.52 GWh of electricity during the rainy season, while producing 67.10 GWh of electricity in the dry season. Overall, the project will be producing 185.62 GWh of electricity every year.   

The project will occupy 36.2964 hectares of land. The projected cost of the project is Rs 6.23 billion. The amount includes Rs 65.11 million for land acquisition and Rs 39.46 million on minimization of environmental impacts and management. The project is estimated to complete its construction in three years from the start of the construction work.
