Kathmandu: The government has appointed Biraj Singh Thapa as the Registrar of Kathmandu University (KU).

Prime Minister and KU Chancellor Balendra Shah appointed Thapa as the Registrar on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor of the University. The newly appointed Registrar Thapa took the oath of office and secrecy at a program organized at the Ministry of Education and Sports on Wednesday.

Thapa has been working as an associate professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, KU for the past 22 years. He has a PhD in hydropower from Norway. Thapa also leads a team at Green Hydrogen Lab of the university and has conducted a successful testing of hydrogen-fuelled vehicle for the first time in Nepal.

At the swearing-in ceremony, Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel instructed the newly appointed office bearers to work with teamwork and proactively for the university reforms. He said that it is necessary to move forward the process of establishing KU on a specialized trustee model.
